Welcome
At Wayne State University, we strive to make our campus an inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome all people and understand that their unique experiences, talents, and perspectives make us a stronger institution and better individuals. The university has a long history of meaningful engagement with society, diversity, equity, and inclusion, which are core values in both our mission and our strategic plan.
Wayne State is remarkable for many things, but our ability to open doors to people of all backgrounds, races, creeds, and walks of life is our proudest legacy. And our unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice continues to be our North Star.
The Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (OMSE) seeks to cultivate a safe campus environment that values, promotes, and celebrates identities among all students who engage with the office.
The Wayne State Pride website is where you can find information about upcoming events on the event and Get Involved calendars, catch up on LGBTQ+ news on campus, and find information about student, faculty, and staff organizations and resources.
The Culture & Climate Study inspires a welcoming and inclusive campus climate that is grounded in mutual respect, nurtured by dialogue, evidenced by a pattern of civil interaction, and is one of the foundations of our educational model.
When our faculty and staff feel connected, supported, and encouraged, they are better equipped to serve the students with whom they work. Faculty and staff engagement groups seek to make campus a welcoming and inclusive space.
Our Purpose
The Office of Inclusive Excellence works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to cultivate a campus community that is welcoming and supportive to all. In service of this goal, our primary work includes:
- Leading institutional efforts for DEI across the university in schools, colleges and divisions;
- Implementing educational events and programs for faculty, staff, and students pertaining to topics of culture, identity, equity, and inclusion;
- Monitoring and analyzing equity and inclusion-related data through the Campus Climate Study and other reports and dashboards;
- Partnering with schools, colleges, and departments to foster a culture of equity and inclusion; and
- Advising the President, Provost, and other university leaders related to DEI-related initiatives
